Some unexpected consequences of the fact that the world is at a virtual stand-still.
The people of the city of Jalandhar woke up a few days ago to a sight that most thought was apocryphal, they could see mountains that they had never seen before.
It’s thought that the lack of movement of people and the resultant reduction in pollution has made the air cleaner and clearer. Less cars, less planes and less factories has meant that the sight of the mountains, some 213 km away has become visible once again for the first time in decades.
I can only imagine how deeply inspirational this must have been for the people who actually live in this part of the world. They’d likely been told stories about how in days gone by, the mountains were visible, but it probably felt like it wasn’t really true… and now it is!
As you can imagine, the reactions have been wonderful… people taking to their rooftops to snap pictures of it in case it all goes away again. People also commented that they were able to wear white clothes for multiple days anfd they still looked white, rather than being blackened by the polluted air.
